A short link is a redirect, not a different Pin
pin.it/… is Pinterest's own shortener. It carries an identifier and Pinterest, on request, answers with a redirect to the full Pin address.
Both forms point at the same Pin. Full address, short link, and the country-specific domains all end up in the same place, which is why the box on this site accepts any of them without you having to clean the link up first.
What happens when you paste one
When a short link fails
Short links break for the same reasons full links do: the Pin was deleted, or the Pin is private, or the link was mangled by the app it was copied from.
What to do: open the link once in a browser. If Pinterest shows the Pin, copy the full address from the address bar and use that. If Pinterest itself says the Pin is gone, no tool can read it.
Links that are not single Pins
Board links, profile links and the address of a Pinterest search result are all a different shape. There is no single file behind them, so they are refused with a message explaining what to paste instead — rather than a vague error.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to expand a pin.it link before pasting it?
No. Paste it as it is. The redirect is followed for you.
Why was my link rejected?
Most often it was a board, a profile or a search page rather than a single Pin. Open the Pin itself and copy that address.
Do links from different countries work?
Yes — country domains resolve to the same Pins, and the link is normalised before it is read.
