What a video Pin actually is
A video Pin points at an MP4 file on Pinterest's CDN. That file is a complete video: picture and sound in one container. Nothing about it is specially protected — it is a normal MP4 that a browser plays.
You can tell a video Pin by playing it. If it plays with sound when you open it, there is a real file behind it. If it never plays — even on Pinterest itself — then the file is gone and only artwork remains; see the last section.
Getting the file
The audio is not re-encoded
A common worry with download tools is that sound gets stripped or flattened in the process. Here it does not, because nothing is converted. The bytes you receive are the bytes Pinterest serves — the same file the player on Pinterest used. If the original has an audio track, your MP4 has it.
There is no separate audio-only download. This tool hands over the video file and nothing else; it does not produce an MP3.
When a Pin says the video is no longer available
Pinterest keeps the Pin after the video behind it has been removed or moved, and still shows it as a video Pin. There is then no MP4 left to fetch — only the cover image.
This is detected rather than guessed at. If a Pin is in that state the page says so plainly instead of offering a download that would fail, and the cover image is still available to save.
Frequently asked questions
What format do I get?
MP4, exactly as Pinterest stores it. The file keeps its original video and audio encoding because it is handed over untouched.
Can I get just the audio?
No. This tool downloads the video file; it does not extract a separate audio track. If you need audio only, you would convert the MP4 yourself afterwards.
Why does a video Pin show as unavailable?
Because Pinterest removed or moved the underlying file while keeping the Pin. On Pinterest the Pin simply will not play. There is nothing to download but the cover.
